In this thesis, high-capacity signal transmission combining OTDM and differential phase shift keying modulations is studied. Optical time division multiplexing and advanced modulation formats are some of the answers found to the increasing demand of communication bandwith. OTDM allows serial transmission of several tributaries using a single line, and advanced modulation formats improve the spectral efficiency of the transmission. Joining both techniques is therefore a very promising approach towards ultra-fast signal transmission. To start with, a description of differential phase shift keying modulaton formats and a study of their performance is carried out, with special focus on D8PSK multilevel modulation format. After that, the principles of OTDM are explained, and the optimization of an OTDM scheme using fiber-based FWM for demultiplexing is built, optimized and tested. In the end, both thechnologies are joined and the resulting performance is studied.
